The RØDE NTG3 super-cardioid shotgun microphone is designed for professional use on film, television, electronic news gathering and wherever high-resolution broadcast audio is required.
As RØDE's premier directional microphone the NTG3 exhibits superlative audio quality with a rich, warm quality and a full frequency response. Its RF bias technology makes it almost completely resistant to moisture, making it the only option when recording in demanding environments where condensation is an issue.
Machined from solid brass and available in either anti-glare, nickel-plated finish or matte black (NTG3B), the NTG3 is incredibly robust while remaining light weight.
Its precise yet forgiving polar pattern ensures that whether used on-camera or on a boom pole, the NTG3 will capture audio clearly every time.
A durable aluminum storage cylinder is supplied to provide the ultimate protection for the NTG3 while in storage and transport. Tightly sealed at both ends the cylinder is highly weatherproof, adding to the microphone's rugged performance credentials.
The RØDE NTG3 shotgun microphone is designed and made in Australia, and covered by RØDE Microphones' industry leading 10 year warranty.
Sound Features You Need at the Price You Want
The RØDE NTG-3 Shotgun Microphone is a fully-featured mic that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the industry-standard Sennheiser 416. The difference is that the NTG-3 is $699, compared to $1199, making it accessible to more filmmakers and more crews. No matter what your budget, if you're going to shoot high definition video, you need to complement it with high def sound.
Radio Frequency Rejection
Nothing is worse than a great shot being ruined by something you can’t even hear. The NTG-3 provides a radio-frequency (RF) interference rejection feature, allowing you to avoid annoying noise from nearby RF sources, such as radio antennas, WiFi networks, internet devices, power lines, and more. When you consider just how many of these sources of interference are around even in rural areas, it’s clear that RF interference rejection is necessary for filmmakers and sound technicians in any setting.
Precise Directional Pickup
Record only what you want and who you want with the RØDE NTG-3’s first-class directional pickup. With a high level of accuracy and sensitivity over a considerable range, a high frequency response, and a low noise floor, this mic records crystal clear audio. Whether you’re in the studio or outdoors, you can rely on high definition audio from RØDE.
Braves the Storms
This professional shotgun mic is expertly crafted to withstand adverse weather conditions. Come wind, rain, sleet or snow, its hardy construction will keep your audio recording running smoothly. If you ever have to film outside, you know how quickly the weather can turn poor—and sometimes you need to finish the shoot anyway. Any serious film crew needs a microphone of this caliber in their kit.
DVeStores own Guy Cochran tested the RØDE NTG-3 along with the Canon 5D Mark II and the external Tascam DR-100 recorder. Watch below:
The RODE NTG-3 Shotgun Microphone is available in DVeStore's ready-to-go kits. The most popular NTG-3 kit is our DVcreator Location sound package 4, which includes both the RODE Blimp and an internally-cabled K-TEK Boom pole. You can also search for "NTG-3" to explore more bundles.
The RØDE NTG-3 is easy to setup—remember 48v phantom power is required.
- Plug the XLR cable into microphone
- Turn on 48V Phantom Power
- Position the mic towards the desired source, keeping in mind that the NTG-3 does have a "Tail" and "hears" from behind
- Adjust the audio to desired levels
- Place the mic in a shockmount to avoid low end rumble and handling noise
- Use the included foam windscreen, or a blimp to avoid wind noise
