Video: Metering Options for the Sound Devices MixPre-3 and MixPre-6

In today's video Dave walks us through the metering options for the new Sound Devices MixPre-3 and MixPre-6.

The Sound Devices MixPres have five methods for observing the meters. The first is each channel knob has an LED ring that surrounds it, and the brightness of the colors tracks the level of the input. So the brighter it is, the hotter your signal. And each are capable of displaying the following colors.

Green means you have good signal. Red means your signal is peaking. Orange means your signal is limiting. And when a channel is in solo mode, the LED ring will flash orange.

Next, you have the channel screen meter. Here is where you will see an individual channel meter for the channels selected, as well as a solo button, track arm, gain, pan, depending on what mode you're in. Next, is the main left-right stereo meter view. This shows just the main left and right meters.

After that, you have the left and right and multitrack meter view. This shows the stereo mix track, as well as meters for each channel.

Then you have the left-right returns via the aux in and USB one, two meter view. This shows the left and right mix, the aux levels, and the USB levels.

Switching between meter views is actually pretty easy, you just touch the meters and cycle through the different views on the LCD screen. The meters will also show arm status of each track and if there is any limiting going on.
