Upgrade Your Audio for DSLR Camera's and Smart Devices - Part 2 - Lavalier Microphones

Do you like the way your audio sounds from your camera or smart device? If not, then here is one great way shown in the video below to improve your audio for your masterpieces by using a lavalier microphone.

Joel Wallis here with the DVEStore.

So today, we're going to talk about audio. How can we make our video sound better?

Whether you're using a DSLR camera, a smartphone device, or even a tablet. So let's jump in and I'll show you how to do this. All right, so now, the lavalier, which is one of my favorite mics for blogs and interview setups since the recording pattern is omnidirectional. There are two ways we could go with the lavalier. One would be going with a wired version, so you'd have your lavalier mic hardwired to your camera or smart device. Another option that we can do is we could go wireless.

I personally like the RØDE Filmmaker Kit for a great way to be able to make this wireless, so now you can be able to walk and talk and you're not cabled to the camera. The other great advantage to a lavalier mic is if we had a noisy background… This allows, for very minimal surroundings to be picked up. So it's really close quarters. You will here a little bit in the background, but it's not going to be as much as if you had, say, like your shotgun mic on top of your camera. Whatever it's pointing at, it's going to pick up that audio. As you can hear, I'm sounding nice, crystal, and clear. I can look to my left, I can look to my right, I can move around, and I'm still going to get the same audio.

For smartphone and tablets, you'll need to use the RØDE SC4TRS to TRRS adaptor because the RØDE Kit, uses the TRS connection, and the smart devices, uses the TRRS connection.
